One of the cruelest parts was watching Trump and Vance talk over and belittle Zelensky, a leader speaking English as a second language, like schoolyard bullies. It was gross and deliberate. And deep down, Vance knows it, which makes his spinelessness all the more pathetic.

It very likely is. Educated people whose first language is not English generally learn at least three languages, some better than others. My mother tongue is Danish, we had English, French, German and Latin in school. I can also hack my way in Italian and Spanish. Necessary if you like to travel.

Actually I think English is Zelenskyy's third or fourth language. He speaks Russian as well as Ukrainian. And maybe some other European language. At any rate they gave a clinic on how to bully someone who is supposedly your friend.
