Actual scientists in the US can’t just move to Canada. Canada is an independent county and has jurisdiction on who can move there on a permanent basis.

And besides that, while Canada is very nice, a lot of people like Alaska for itself - it's home. Even for me, who has spent the latter half of my life in Vermont, another nice, though too far south, place to live, Alaska feels more like home in spite of the downsides, not related to climate.

Yes, many (most) existing climate type datasets are saved locally or offline in many places, from academic institutions to individuals home machines. The real problem would be future data that is not gathered and so lost forever.

All old data is publicly available for anyone to download here:
https://ncei.noaa.gov.
However some data sets are very large.
And obviously if new data isn't being collected, that's a problem
