I totally get it. And I'm not saying it's BAD to not write fanfic. But there are people who assume that because something is what THEY would prefer to read that it's what should be happening.

I get the, "I don't like what Boruto is doing," approach to the series, but it's literally just a continuation of the plot with Kishimoto's input.

You're free to not like it, but that doesn't make it "fanfic."

i think it really depends on how well the spin off are executed from the original work. Sometimes, it sure does blur the line between well written fanfic and official spin off work. But also of course, Official works needs to be more responsible with what they are writing 🤔

It's a heavy work to carry for sure since they need to be carefully written the established lore and characters and also creating new ones. But No matter what I also believe artists/writers should have freedom to create

There's a very big disconnect from what are the actual issues the series has vs the way people speak about supposed issues they think the series has.

When people speak about the series, it tends to be outdated, misinformed or just backhanded, so it's extremely counterproductive.

And it's unfortunate that it's come to this but people tend to get very defensive on these apps when told their criticisms of the story are fabricated lies that don't exist because they don't read the story.

In general, I think the best approach is to be a fun, enthusiastic fandom that gets new people or makes others ask themselves what they're missing out on rather than correcting people who aren't curious enough to take a look for themselves.

MLP G5 is more of a fanfic than Boruto/TBV or Homestuck^2/ Beyond Canon. MLP G5 has as far as I know NO input from Lauren Faust and she is not involved in any capacity. Kishimoto and Hussie are both at least loosely involved in these other sequels in a getting from point a to point b sense.

The conversations that surround manga are so different from sequential art in the west because, of course the artists and writers here hand off series to new creators, and it's up to the organization that oversees the IP to maintain consistency.

No one is like, "Denny O'Neil's Batman is totally canon, but Grant Morrison was obviously writing fanfic." It's just kind of accepted that long-running series will change hands, and that's one of the things that keeps comic books fresh.

Yeah, I agree. And it's people who either didn't like the direction Naruto took at the end or were looking for a continuation of og characters in the sequel. And there's nothing much to be done about that.
