Very early #OnThisDay, 30 April 1944, New Zealander Nancy Wake parachutes into occupied France to be a courier for the Special Operations Executive.

Nick-named 'the white mouse' by the Gestapo, she is never captured.

She died in 2011.

Yes, I am, but it's a slow job! I was in costume and 1940s style shoes, and the route was as close as possible to Nancy's route, but sadly the option for a 1940s bike fell through, and in the end, the bike I used was an ordinary upright ladies bike. https://www.facebook.com/groups/195972225500331
