he is nonverbal & lashed out in an unfamiliar situation and is very clearly not fully aware of his size or strength.

police have asked him to come for a "voluntary" interview even tho it's been explained that he's nonverbal and would likely not understand what's going on. the chance of an incident occurring because he's scared is honestly pretty high and i'm terrified of this happening but don't know what to do 🧵

Do not attend the interview. Find a good criminal lawyer who will give advice (the first session may even be free). Do not allow the defendant to be interviewed without both a lawyer and an 'appropriate adult' present. Do not allow them to agree to a caution or anything similar.

i'm honestly aghast that someone who works with disabled people would bring charges against a low income, disabled man of colour without first bringing it to his family as a POSSIBILITY, but idk. it is what it is, we're here now.

No speaking to the police without a lawyer present. I’d say guardian, but even non-disabled people shouldn’t talk to the police without a lawyer. Seriously. This person is at compounded risk for wrongful conviction. Lawyer up!
