Was this scene supposed to be a surprise? Because you totally could see her earlier in the episode. #TNGSunNight (and her voice is kind of a dead giveaway)

You have to put yourself in the context of 1990. Tasha didn't even make it through all of S1. Nobody was expecting a return of Denise Crosby. You hadn't watched her in reruns/streaming endlessly, so you may not have instantly recognized the voice. In SD, you probably also couldn't see her as well.
I did--in 1990 we guessed it at her first appearance. We wondered if there was a technical glitch and she wasn't darkened as much as she should have been (I worked at a TV station doing graphics when it first aired)
Had my U-Haul, not been broken into when I first moved to Los Angeles. I would actually have a videotape showing our reaction! It was a friend's barbeque and we were just going all over the place with the camera from the station. I'm really sad that we don't have that video anymore.
I guess my TV was shittier than yours. I sure didn't make her out. The voice sounded familiar, but honestly it didn't scream out Tasha because so much happened since her death, and I hated most of season one. The episodes from S1 didn't do it enough for me for her voice to be burned into my brain
I think there's also kind of a balance the producers strike with reveals like these. I imagine they want some people to figure it out, or be wondering if they really saw what they thought they saw, or even have the satisfaction of beating everyone else to the punch.
I mean, if you took this image and even slightly upped the brightness or contrast on your standard def TV, it would be pretty clear--and people were taping them and watching back. The first time we saw a silhouette of her it was a completely different actor, which is probably the smart way to do it!
