Just make sure to stop them from being bought up by the same real estate investors who are contributing to the housing crisis already. More overpriced rents or empty "investment properties" will not help Canadians buy a home!
Yes please. Make them similar to the war time houses we have here in KW that are so well built. We need to stop putting McMansions on fertile farmland as has been happening under our current premier.
Completely agree. The city I grew up in had a lot of war time houses. The catch is that they were around 800-900 sqft. We need to go back to that likely to make them affordable as single family homes.
Our first house (1973) was 800 sq ft and we built it with grants from fed & prov govts. We would not have been able to buy otherwise. Would today’s young families be willing to start out in such a tiny bungalow? Sorry to say, but I doubt it.
That's what I did (although more than 30 years ago). In the end though the place I was in was too big for me. I left well over half my stuff behind. Honestly, I could have gone smaller but kept too much stuff. 😉
I grew up in the 50’s in wartime housing built in Halifax in the 40’s. Those houses still stand. I think the idea to focus on prefabs is a brilliant idea to fix the housing and affordability crisis
So, make a plan that involves directed funding for affordable housing. Stop expecting housing developers (who are really in it to make money) to solve the problem.

Private equity needs to be banned from home ownership in Canada.
And while I am on this soapbox, no media ownership or mega farm as well.

If the big builders won't do it, back new builders.
