— 1,369 homes built per day
— 57 homes built per hour
— 0.95 homes built per minute
Listen, I’m no central bank governor, but I can do simple math. This #housing promise was ridiculous when Trudeau made it, and it’s just as ludicrous now.
-684 homes every day
-28 house an hour
-0.475 house per minute
We will have no unemployment, government backing, …
I grew up watching my father work building houses in new subdivisions, I believe it is possible
A house in every city
When there is a will
This makes me pause voting for carney who I thought would be bluer than red Trudeau. The government is not the engine of the economy. It’s the conductor.
Here in BC the government can’t get its act together to build a very critical tunnel or rebuild decimated towns razed by fires.
So, some of it is based on location. I bought a sub-200k prefab in Nova Scotia. It was the end of 2023, placed on a rental lot ($200/month). I just looked, it's still under 200k, but closer. They have a smaller unit at around $175,000. So, they do exist. Perhaps not where people want them.
You can't build a house for 80,000$. Remember houses aren't only thing that qualifies as a home. Apartments aren't homes. I couldn't find a lot recently under 80,000$. I priced an uninsured garage on my own property with no services and it was 50k.
It hasn't existed for decades. People are spending 80k on a truck. I think it is unreasonable to expect to get a house for the same price. I built my house 27 years ago. It is small and not fancy outside of the city and cost almost double your low end.
The housing crisis has been ongoing for at least a decade. It’s the lower range rents, and mortgages that have disappeared. to keep seniors, single folks, alone or raising children, and 2 people working min wage full time properly housed we need options in this range.
You could never afford a house on min wage. That is not new. Yes, the housing shortage is an issue and has been for a long time. It is getting worse. But you can't expect everyone to own a house. That has never been reality.
Have you considered 3-D printers for housing? The University of Maine, with its “advanced structures and composite centre” has a thermoplastic 3-D printer and has printed the world’s first 100% bio based 3-D printed house in 2022. fast, sustainable and affordable housing. It’s possible.
