Kashrut was just based on the priests’ favourite foods.

Hungry priests: “And we’ll need you to bring sacrifices. Animal and grain sacrifices. To the temple. Your best animals and grain. Burn them? Well really the sacrifice is the blood and fat. But the meat is reserved to only be eaten by priests. Why? Deep theological reasons. You wouldn’t understand.”
