Just spitballing here, but an org could have their IT network team blacklist chatGPT/OpenAI/etc’s domain(s) to prevent access and prevent downloading the service locally, for any company owned hardware. Had an employer do that with SoundCloud way back, they even emailed my boss that I’d accessed it.
It can definitely be blocked by specific employers on the network, and made part of their policy—but that’s ultimately voluntary and sadly most wouldn’t want to do that since AI makes them easy money.
If it does bust or demonstrate outstanding liabilities at major tech firms, I wouldn’t be surprised to see AI leave the corporate space as a tool/get blacklisted, even if it remains in a consumer space for personal use.
I’m still holding my breath. I’ve seen cloud, blockchain, crypto/NFT, all come and go through the various tech industries I worked with. Not sure whether AI will end up being a core tool of the future or a heavily invested….gimmick? If that makes sense. It’s on the rise for sure…not sold yet.
