I know someone who loves dolphins and Mickey Mouse. Has decorated a ton of her apartment with trinkets and posters and stuff. Even had clothes.

My mum's house is a lot less hoardery than mine but it's covered in Doctor Who and Star Wars things - definitely wouldn't like the things I do without her! (The NES and Game Boy we had was hers, and she got me to watch anime as a kid too!)

There's a certain joy that comes with opening Spider-Man, Pokemon, Nintendo etc things as gifts from your mum despite being well into your 30s.

But then I got her a RuPaul Monster High doll for Christmas last year and she cried.

We're pretty much the same person.

The thing about your 30s, at least for me, is I care less about what people think about my passions. If anything, it's easier to embrace them more as you have a better understanding of who you are and a realisation that contentedness comes from within, not validation from outside.

My mum was a bit similar. Never shamed me but every once in a while got frustrated that I could regurgitate video game knowledge but not anything I learned in science at school. Now she's like "Oh dang that knowledge is how he gets paid."
