Echoes I would tune in for every week when I was in high school (on my radio-cassette-player boombox). The show played a kind of music I had never heard before. Years later, when John Diliberto asked me to come to Pennsylvania to play live on his show, I couldn’t believe it. 2/
New Sounds, I started listening to in the 90s. I’ve heard so much music that has moved and inspired me. It was another pinch-me moment to hear myself on the show. Like Echoes, New Sounds expanded my horizons and then introduced MY music to audiences I could never have reached as a DIY artist. 3/
New Sounds home, WNYC (which brought you RadioLab, another show that has done magic for me), is facing cuts. Unless New Sounds finds new philanthropic support or a new home, they will cease to exist on May 31. They need to find a major donor to sustain the show https://www.wnyc.org/shows/newsounds
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I had never heard of either of these places. Don’t know what I can do beyond my donations, but I’ll give it a shot.
I also listened to Echoes in High School! Echoes introduced me to so much amazing music. Plus I just love John Diliberto's voice. It was on late on my local station, 10 or 11 PM, a great way to chill before sleep. You reminded me that I can subscribe via the internet. Time to revive a ritual!
