Husb shared a story with me this week (from years ago) which involved hearing “there’s fire everywhere” screamed over the radio & coming back to his type 2 yardsaled all over surrounded by spot fires.
lol. I gotta go to bed, but remind me one of these days to tell you about the time I accidentally ended up in the middle of the Clear Creek Fire (on my day off) acting as a pilot car for rafters coming out of the Middle Fork with my 80 year old grandmother in the truck...
1st pic - he'd dropped me off, went back for equipment and helitack guy, this was him landing in the LZ I cleared.
2nd - random shot of him coming to pluck me off random mountain
3rd - Jim on the left, awesome/crazy alaskan helitack dude on the right
That LZ on the left was where the helitack dude was prepping our deployment site -- can't see brush/trees off side of ridge, but we'd come to the conclusion that our small clearing was almost certainly a survivable burnover site.
pic quality is what one would expect from shitty scan of a photo taken on a circa 2000 shitty disposable camera I'd had in my bag just-in-case for at least 2 years. I'd left for that assignment in a hurry, forgetting my real camera.
That whole time watching the coming I was thinking about the stories I'd heard from several people I knew who'd been in an infamous burnover, though injured, they lived to tell the horrifying stories. (I'd heard Mike tell his story countless times -- @ 30:06 ish https://youtu.be/RzPfGp30naU?si=JZeW5YoZDjsEsxMb
Husband talks about all of these so it’ll be cool to hear it for myself.
Do you ever make it around the TV? I’m realizing I don’t know what part of the state you hail from.
If you do & we’re all not so busy we can’t see straight, we should all get coffee or something.

there's too damn many close calls on firelines... and hell, I was FFT2 red carded, but I was a comms guy I didn't see near the fire that most did.

well, except in the summer when we are rarely in 2C... ton of traveling.
I'd *love* to not be so busy I can't see straight, very looking forward to that at some point....
