No doubt its gonna suck but I don't think its going to impact shipments that come with the Express logistic services all too much. The Temu stuff takes different routes through customs than DHL Express, FedEx etc.
You buy being ahead of the queue there, different to USPS piles.

It will definitely impact express shipments. While they do have priority customs clearance, all these services charge brokerage fees for that privilege. That’s an additional fee on top of postage and on top of import duties. DHL is the most reasonable but UPS and FedEx brokerage can be insane.

Yea but its unlikely to cause additional massive delays, cost may increase a bit but when we are talking about quick turn you are going to use DHL Express or FedEx in the first place. Slow postal shipping would negate the benefit even now.

I’m not betting on that either. Suddenly every single package from those countries is going to incur fees, that’s a giant logistical increase in 2 days that no one will be prepared for. All the services are going to be screwed for a while.

How insane? I have a ~$150 order waiting for Ali to ship. I'm wondering if I should just try to cancel it at this point. DHL is about $20 but last time I ordered from this shipper it went UPS.

I’ve had customers in Canada charged $150 for a $500 shipment. It’s a % of declared value plus some minimum and impossible to find info on their website. On the import side I never used UPS for larger shipments, most of them go sea freight.

Did you buy their insurance possibly? Normally brokerage should not be tied to price, only for shipping insurance declared value is calculated in.

It was not insurance. UPS ties brokerage fees to declared value. I think DHL may too but it’s a tiny amount with a cap from what I recall.

Going to concur on that bit about impossible to find on their website. Also impossible to find on the web because of \overload of posts about fees to shipments in Canada. Guess I'll wait and see. One order is $150. The other is $20. I could do $50 or so on the 1st and walk away from the 2nd. Thanks!

Heh, it may be that for whatever reason UPS has it out for Canada, but I have no confidence that it’ll be very different on the import side of things here. I’d be really interested to know what they end up charging you if you don’t mind reporting back!

As far as governments (and shipping companies) are concerned, Jumperlesses are worth about $8 due to my "don't talk to cops" policy.

That's definitely going to be the big impact. The additional processing time, leading to increased shipping costs, rather than the tax on the items alone.

This is why I bought everything I could think I might need from China before January.
