Jen, didya ever see a sports team have a wildly successful 1st period, completely dominate their opponent for that period, then just collapse and LOSE once their opponent straightens out, toughens up, finds their stride, and then rolls right over the leaders. My mind, heart, soul, see that coming.
YOUR feet on the street! The gods won't do it FOR us. WE CREATE OUR OWN REALITY by what WE choose to do or not do. Quit with the passive, 'I'm helpless - it's out of my hands' crap.
That team I spoke of didn't just lay back and hope some god won FOR them! They cleared their heads, woke their asses up, and FOUGHT LIKE HELL, and didn't wait until the last period of the game!
We haven’t had the experience of seeing these people face justice, other than some of tWumpty’s lawyers losing their licenses to practice law. And we may never see it.
But I’ll enjoy that sliver of light for hoping to see them lose their political power.
There are indications that the not-so-supreme court is retreating from its rubber stamping of the felon's actions. When the cases get to them and they find against him, if he continues to defy the court, the real test of democracy will be played out. Contempt for the highest court matters the most.
It's that this kind of outcome and the ignoring-behavior are straight out of their playbook. Both project 2025 and whatever the techbro Butterfly one is called where they plan to basically dismantle the US into company-states.
It all matters—whether is changes anyone else or not. Cyncism, defeatism, and learned helplessness are not our friends. In itself, standing up for the rule of law matters. Without that, there is no opposition. Without opposition, there is only capitulation.
The part that is astonishing to me?The fact that ppl equate realism or being realistic about *what is* not what *should be*, with cynicism, defeatism,or learned helplessness. Some people can see the writing on the wall and call that out.Others, refusing to acknowledge reality, call them defeatists 🤦🏻♀️
Yeah, I keep seeing this same mentality everywhere. Are they going to ignore it? Most likely. What's the alternative then? For the justice system to just lay down, stop insisting the laws of this country are being broken and not fight?! I'd rather the fight. #resist #takethefighttothem
Yes… this is the great question. What moves the people? Ideas and principles matter a lot. But historically, most people are moved by the sight of others standing up courageously. Breaking with what is expected to do something that is personally risky but defined by integrity.
The measure for outrage is the most difficult thing in this matter, esp. in echo chambers. The few times you can quantify it is during an election when we can see raw numbers & even those don't tell the whole story. It just takes standing up & against it and hoping the outrage catches fire. 🤞
I agree with you completely. We must maintain confidence that our system of government will work. Checks and balances, and due process will carry us through. We must all keep the faith.
That's true, but the people who need to hear it are either: the men with guns who enforce laws, or, the people who convince those men to enforce the laws.
All of this should be viewed through that lens. Don't just expect it to happen by itself, be convincing
Fascist regimes work hard to evoke despair and helplessness in resistance movements. We don't have to let them.
As is the case with armed resistance, nonviolent resistance requires courage and involves serious risks. However, fascist power is more precarious than it looks, and we can bring it down.
agree with all you say. and yet, there is a push to change the law. Here is the new bill HR 1295 that gives the government license to do all that it wants, bypassing Congress, and obviously, the federal judges. If it passes, it is law.
They flew the plane to El Salvador. They moved the Tufts student ( I am two more emails from nailing the spelling on her name). What other orders have they ignored? I'm sure some are there.

We need to hold onto that sliver of light. 😩
