We've come to the conclusion that my motherboard has just fried up overnight. No idea why??

Anyway I had A Big Panic but remembered I pay for a cloud back up service, and managed to pull out the files I need. I'll just need to finish them on my laptop which is not ideal but PHEW.

If your hard drive isn’t the problem you can get a USB cable/enclosure for it and connect to another PC/laptop to retrieve files. Just need to know what type of hard drive.
Had to do this when my PC’s MB went kaput about a year ago due to bad power supply connections.

Oh that's a good idea too! Gotta remember it. My main problem is just being very short on time, ofc this stuff always happens on a weekend/sunday when shops are closed and can't get stuff delivered asap XD

The one I use is https://www.backblaze.com/ , there are probably many more. But soo important to have either a local or cloud back up...my files are technically safe, luckily, but I can't access them for a few weeks now which would have incredibly inconvenient and bad.
(Gonna just rebuild my whole rig now 💸)

I use backblaze after I lost almost a year of my work and my webcomic files and raw speedpaint videos, it's a savage lesson to be learned! keep back ups! backblaze has been a blessing, it backs up the entire system ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)b

Oh god this makes me SO HAPPY, you wouldn't believe it. As a compugeek I've seen people lose everything so many times and it never gets easier to watch, let alone bear. The existence of effective backup makes me happy puppy. And yes, I usually recommend BackBlaze too because it just ****ing works.

Yeahh for years I just shrugged it off until I heard a horror story. I never remember to do it manually so I enjoy having a service that just runs in the bg and does it for me. Never ever had to use it until now but so worth it!!

harddrive taken in, used, never given back, they caught a lot of slag from that, but in the end their company was saved. about 10 years of coding was saved. ooffff

not really lucky. it was the end fo the 90's. so working from home became more normal in the netherlands. however, the company still did not do backups, so stuff like this would happen.
