It’s an indictment of our failures as a society that Baldwin and King’s commentaries on the brokenness of the US in the 1960s are as incisive and meaningful now as they were then. Sixty years and we haven’t fixed what’s wrong.

In my lifetime, I'm 77, I've seen great strides. Jim Crow was the South and I live in FL now. All restaurants serve all people. Interracial marriages are common. High positions in the workforce and on news channels of all ethnicities, etc. Never stop moving forward but enjoy the successes.
You're probably smart & well educated enough to see the inherent problems in asserting that today, 30 days after a black (if you please) woman lost the presidency by 1.5%, we are no different than we were 60 years ago. & I don't think that she can be accused of tokenism.
Yes. Their writings are both inspiring in the clarity of their analysis and depressing that we were able to accomplish so little in spite of the direction they provided
Has anyone given thought to why discrimination based on sex, race, nationality, age, and religion is illegal, but discrimination on economic circumstance isn't?
