I think people keep ignoring that candidates get elected for multiple reasons, and different voters rank their priorities differently.

The unrepentant Trump voter who loses their farm simply valued Trump more than their farm.

300k Union dead. The same number of Confederates. Half the country decimated and nearly 7% of the adult men’s population between 18-54. Bread riots in Richmond. Draft Riots in New York. All to preserve an “institution” that was a crime against humanity. And within 6 years, they were pardoned.
