Memphis had two "Throwback Hip Hop" radio stations and unfortunately both went out of business. The second one was especially painful, because one day, November 1st, to be precise, it switched to Christmas music and the rap never came back. It never came back.
They got a few on SiriusXM, but over the air the best you'll find is either shit like the Boogie Bang on 91.7 or a syndicated hour on a Saturday or Sunday. Can be tough, though, bc unlike classic rock there's not a lot of consistent sounds from era to era or region to region.
88.3 WSHJ in Southfield, MI used to play almost exclusively old-school rap, not sure if they're still on the air. And 93.3 WWHM in Sumter, SC plays classic R&B
I have satellite radio in my car and they have one of these channels, it's pretty great for running errands around town. EPMD's "Strictly Business" is on right now.
The IHeartMedia equivalent wouldn't be nearly as good though I suppose.
pls God no, it's hard enough for classic rock when u have to listen to "she's having your baby" by the Mormon tabernacle choir. I don't wanna hear "it's hard put here for a pimp" by pat boone
