True, BASIC might not land you a job (and there's a separate problem of education being conceptualized by neoliberalism as their workforce production line)... But damn it that BASIC still makes a fine children's programming language, more immediately practical than teaching pseudocode.

Even letting them play with a USB limited to FAT32, a small portable HDD with NTFS and some video files would give them practical knowledge that sometimes more than 4GB of data is too much.
