This strikes me as a miscalculation by the WSJ — They are treating their subscribers like idiots who know nothing about Partition. I bet most know that Partition was horrific and 1-2 million Indians and Pakistanis died. I can’t imagine they will appreciate being blatantly lied to. - ThreadSky

We can agree to disagree on that. But I spend a lot of time talking about parts of South Asian history with different groups. In my experience, educated conservative-leaning folks in the U.S. tend to know the basics of Partition.

Agreed. Also because the victims are still alive and their children are younger Gen X and Millennials. Lots of people to keep that history alive.

This is on par for Dhume. He's the king of terrible takes. It's almost like he strives to do worse with every article. But this is probably the worst byline by him, even after his illustrious writing career full of terrible takes. If Dhume says something sensible, I would suspect plagiarism.
