Minnesota has an amazing program called ECFE that has parent educators as well as child educators and it’s AMAZING. Paul Wellstone wanted to make it national when he died.

More info for anyone interested! ECFE changed my life and my parenting and who I see as my community. I joined when my first was 6mo old and am on my last year now with my second.

Taking a parent and childhood development course so my kid could go to daycare for free was the BEST thing I ever did. Started me on my journey to desire healthier parenting than I had + inadvertently healing a better me. Totally agree.

Not just this but Parenting is a collaborative effort too. The saying “it takes a village” was reality until modernity. Mothers, Fathers, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncs, cousins, neighbors, and friends all helped raise kids. It’s actually unnatural that we expect one or two people to do all the work.

This!! It’s always “kids don’t come with a manual”. Okay, but there’s tons of resources out there, especially today, that can help develop a parenting philosophy so you aren’t a buttmunch to your kids.

Absolutely agree. I've heard so many parents say things like "my 3-month-old is just crying to get attention" as if it's being manipulative, and it's like "wow, you don't know what's going on in there at all, huh..."

In America, they don’t even give you an hour. They immediately hand you your baby after hours of labor. I remember 36 hrs of labor, they weighed, diapered my child and handed him to me. Then the nurses left. Exhausted, hungry, I knew nothing and had a newborn dependent on me. Thank god for my hubby.

I’ve seen a lot of parents just yell at their children when they do something they don’t like over the years and I’m just like: “what are you people doing? This isn’t the best way to get your kids to stop.” and I’m not a parent nor do I plan on being one.

I have heard too many people including my own mom recognize that parenting is a skill and then jump straight to authoritarianism.
