This is a very good point. And not only from a social welfare perspective but also from an efficiency perspective. For example I saw the birth of electronic trading exchanges. It seems a foregone conclusion now but when markets became electronic initially most of the real money still was on phone

This was because most of the large institutions wanted to trade in size and electronic exchanges didn’t have much shown size. But a group of facilitators came together organically to create a platform such that today all the size is traded on electronic exchanges. It took many small parts to build.

Exactly! If we can’t step waaayyyy back and look at things from outside, we get stuck in these narrow systems. Too bad those systems are so deeply controlled by the powerful. And they will fight to keep their power and wealth systems.
