Which also underscores a related point: Silicon Valley has been the intellectual incubator of the 21st century far right -- I'm really looking forward to Becca Lewis's book on the subject.

Nope, they’re a bunch of power hungry nerds who were courted w “deregulation” so they could be used by Trump. Unless “their ideas” came from the Heritage Foundation, they will be discarded. They’re being used for their willingness to hack to betray the country. They’ll be the ones going to jail.
Could be wrong, but a big question mark here is SV's total naiveté about the role nat-sec in their new regime. The clumsy and seemingly failing purge of the FBI is a good example as is stuff like this. They don't seem to take the humanity of their security staff seriously. https://bsky.app/profile/ordinalandsman.bsky.social/post/3lhbwstq5rs2t
A major dig at the fascism hypothesis has always been that Trump wasn't embedded enough in a paramilitary infrastructure, but one hypothesis you could have here is 'Musk doesn't care to develop that infrastructure because he thinks (stupidly) he can replace it with robots.
Honestly it’s too early to tell on any of this—and obviously there’s an open question of how robust the natsec/Deep State is and if they view Musk as an existential threat.
It's a problem they could solve, but I do think it's notable for Musk et al that unlike Trump who cut his teeth in markets deeply embedded in politics (and organized crime) SV doesn't really have a theory of political survival beyond breaking things and flaunting existing orders.
