The FAA's own internal documents, which the TIMES report linked to, basically say point-blank the problem is budget cuts and COVID, which means they can't hire enough people and keep training programs running at the capacity they need.

wrote a highly misleading piece which cherrypicked anecdotes about a diversity program that hasn't even been in place since 2020 and suggested that it contributed "in some small way" to the ATC shortage.
@ericlevitz.bsky.social was given the assignment of writing a story about how maybe Trump is right about DEI. He wrote that story. The facts and evidence won't get in the way of that. He's hardly the only one.
The most important point is that none of this would be a discussion if the FAA weren't trying to implement racial and gender quotas. If Democrats don't want to give cover to Trumpism's agenda, they should abandon quotas.
I am looking at this from the cynical, libertarian, republican (pardon any redundancy) point of view that this is all in the plan to privatize everything. Eventually, all functions of government will be run by corporations for profit….
This is exactly what they are planning. All the federal employees who have been fired will eventually be rehired through private contractors — and cost more.
…They’re just teeing up the ATC system for takeover on the grounds that the government cannot do it efficiently (because, of course, they’ve starved it to the point of death).

VOX should not have run it as written.
