Trump is an ignoramus on history. Big Powers throughout history have inevitably imploded. History is replete with examples, the last being the Soviet Union and British Empire. Nobody likes to have others will imposed on them. They all win battles and wars but it always ends up as pyrrhic victories.

Trump may also be a believer in George Washington’s edict, and purposely withdrawing to fortress America to avoid “ any foreign entanglements.” That may have worked for America in the 1700’s when it took a hostile power weeks to reach American shores, but not when an ICBM can do it in 30 minutes.
