Good points. Though I have to question whether safety and cleanliness is as big of a problem as they make it out to be? I visited Chicago a few months ago and other than water damage in the tunnels it was probably the cleanest big city US transit system I'd used
Fair. I noticed like one or two times that there were like cigarette ashes or something on a seat which isn't great/should be improved but even that felt cleaner than average (which is arguably sad, but)
Cleanliness on trains is the bigger issue. Most of our stations don't have many places for trash to accumulate. Every elevator is a piss pit, but that is a larger issue than just the CTA, unfortunately. Though CTA could help address it.

I don’t think trash in stations is that common; I think onboard cleanliness of L cars has been a bigger issue.
