Particularly if it’s a food service establishment, they should be ready to serve/start making you anything at 8am.

For food service I agree. Unless something tragic or equipment failure happens then then understandable delays happen - but there’s usually other options for food. If nothing can be served for whatever circumstance - don’t open until you can lol

Everything needs to be ready when the business is open. Setting up during opening hours is unprofessional.

In reference to my post, it is 835am and they’re still not ready 😅. No fault of the employees, just feels that the employer does not respect patron’s time.

I’d say it depends on the business as there might be a few shops than can do things as they go. But, overall, they should be ready. Otherwise better to open later 😅

Yes if they need to open later due to set up, fine. Then people know the time they can actually go to said business for when they’re ready. But if people plan their days around your opening time and you’re not ready? That’s less ok.

In my experience with working in a coffee shop, we usually got there 30 minutes before open (sometimes an hour depending on the business needs) to set up, brew coffee, receive the day’s baked goods, etc. BUT it can take longer depending how well the closers did the previous evening.

Even in retail we got there at least 30 minutes early to get the shop open. Maybe the openers got there late?

It could very well have been the luck of my draw today! They could’ve gotten there late today and things not set up, everyone has their own little universe of things happening outside of our own bubbles. Was just seeing what people’s takes are in general, but definitely good call on that one :)!

If they open at 8am they should be ready for customers at 8am. With that said, they then need to pay their employees appropriately in order to set up prior to opening.
