Classic horror? Hellraiser, because it is a masterclass in body horror and practical effects.

Modern? The Lighthouse (2019). Basically an incredible period drama disguised as a horror movie. Genuinely one of my favorite movies of all time.

Slashers will always be my favourites! I love a good psychological horror too, don't get me wrong. But I love slashers, and anything with good, creative kills. I think my favourites would have to be Slumber Party Massacre 2, FEAR Street part 2, and Scream 2 (i didn't purposely pick all sequels lol)

Perfect combination of satire and terror. The fact Randy in his video store rant tells you exactly how the movies gonna end and who Ghostface is and why he's doing it halfway through the movie, but hides it within other possibilities so you don't pick up on it, that's just so, so cheeky.

I adored I Know What You Did Last Summer, actually. I've seen the 1980 Prom Night and Slumber Party Massacre, but I think IKWYDLS gave the whole thing a much more elevated vibe, even if it was cheesy. It has a very strong 90s horror core feel to it. Scream? The first one, 1996? LOVEEEE

I agree with this. I've also seen Halloween and Halloween II by Rob Zombie...I think as their own films, it is a perfectly fine redneck slasher. I think giving Michael a backstory and a voice detracts from the Pure Evil For No Reason thing that makes him iconic.

Current favorite has to be “Suitable Flesh”!! I love HP Lovecraft’s stories and this movie had a lot of The references without all of the unnecessary bits. I love the subgenre and it makes me incredibly happy to see people add to it!

My definition is ✨loose✨ and ✨flexible✨ If it has horror elements in it and can be argued for it being horror, I will take it. Creepy, eerie, psychological. Even comedies with horror elements. Like Jurassic Park would be under that genre of thriller and horror

Cabin in the Woods. This movie seriously does not get its flowers. It was so meta in such an iconic way. I feel like this movie was to the entire horror genre what Scream was to slashers. It truly could and should have been a whole franchise.

I have a pretentious pick but hear me out, Mother! The slow burn, increasingly frustrating circumstances, commentary on religion and how, in its worse ways, is a source of destruction. I love the climax of absolute stress and chaos. The film makes me upset, stressed, and sympathetic.

I love the Final Destination franchise, for all the fun setups, and how after the first one they start playing with the audience's expectations😁 (also as a kid I was obsessed with Are You Afraid of the Dark lol. The fact that so many of the stories didn't have a happy ending was mind-blowing)

It’s less horror and more family drama / Sci-fi. It does a fantastic job of balancing some deep topics with camp comedy. It always makes me cry, with a plethora of emotions.
