I would guess Peter Bros here in Penticton. Have been supportive of the community, and the Vees...pay every year for free tickets for 16 and under etc....and have significant cash. The efforts to create a super BC - Alta league were dashed by the WHL / NCAA rule change so if you can't beat em ...

Kelowna has the WHL rights in the general area of their city and surrounding area. Just like the Vancouver Canadians have the baseball rights to the Vancouver area. The team with rights have to approve another team coming into their area(territory). The Nucks have the NHL rights to BC.

It ensures a team can be viable and make money. It's the reason the Leafs have never allowed a 2nd TO team... too much money at stake, even though the city could probably easily support two teams.

High end players from the BCHL, AJHL, USHL even freshman in the NCAA are going to be a lot more interested in playing major junior because they will maintain NCAA eligibility. Think players like Makar.

I guess the point then being that the WHL will cast a wider net than the BCHL......but if I'm reading correctly this won't be a new junior team.....it seems like this is the Penticton Vees moving from the BCHL to the WHL.

They go right back to geographical recruitment restrictions.

The old NCAA pipeline model is cooked. I’m sure they’d much rather play Kamloops and Kelowna than Trail and Salmon Arm.
