The inflation rate you use is the projected rate not the previous one. UNISON agree on it being 2.6%. UNISON said the proposed 2.8% rise was “barely above the cost of living”.

You realise NHS workers also pay for the NHS right?

To receive above inflation pay rise would need to be 20-25%+ as our pay has been held back for most of the last 15 years.

If I give you £10 and you give me back £5, how much have you paid me? It’s still minus £5. NHS workers do not pay for the NHS, private sector workers pay for everything.

It’s still money the private sector paid you. The public sector make no net contribution in purely fiscal terms. Now you can argue they make a contribution in allowing the private sector to operate more efficiently, but not one in pure cash terms.

It’s money from all sector taxation. Without the private sector obviously there wouldn’t be enough. But to say NHS workers don’t also contribute is disingenuous. The NHS allows the private sector and the entire population to function at all, from birth.

No that’s not true. Private sector pay has, by and large, kept up with inflation over the last 15 years. Public sector pay has not.

Private sector is only marginally ahead and does not include much better pensions and much higher job security in the public sector. Public sector pay had huge increases under the Blair/Brown governments which outstripped the private sector.

Private sector isn’t just marginally ahead, over 15 years it’s around 20% improved compared to a nurses pay.

You can’t bring arguments about job security and pensions into this, they partly make up for the poor pay 15 years ago, before pay was frozen/held back multiple years in succession.
