Susan La Flesche Picotte was the first Native American doctor. She graduated from Hampton with her bachelor’s before attending Woman’s Medical College in PA. Upon graduation, she returned to the Omaha nation in NE. She worked to improve sanitation, hygiene, mental health, suicide, & alcohol abuse.
