To claim that faculty have no common interest, while doing everything to get faculty to essentially help pay for their jobs (mine is constantly asking me to donate) is beyond ridiculous. Do we not have a common interest in maintaining our place of employment?

It is why most of us don’t organize and try to unionize. It would require that we could mount a $$$ legal challenge to this and another Supreme Court decision that effectively categorizes us as management.

Yeah, if they could just represent around 1.5 million faculty at the more than 1,700 private, non-profit universities we’d be all set. I think this USC case could turn the tide. We will see.

UAW has helped organize 40% of all grad students in the US, up from less than 20% 10 years ago. The pivot at USC is part of UAW turning to organize faculty where they've also organized grad students.
