No president or authority figure has ever explained to the populace-at-large that taxes are something that we pay in order to live in a theoretically functional society. It's the equitable levying of taxes which is an issue. Somalia has low taxes and few regulations, to cite an extreme example.
I am a big fan of what taxes brings us. Especially local taxes that fund our police and firefighters, schools and libraries and roads and infrastructure. We don’t realize how much it is needed
