Here's my question. It's my understanding that the government has more ability to restrict someone's free speech rights if they're acting in their capacity as a government employee, and these are public universities. Does that give the state the ability to cut off faculty support for these groups?

Yes the government has more power to regulate employee-as-employee speech, but that doesn’t extend to students and student groups.

Universities have been going after SJP forever. FIRE has lots of stuff on it.
