I used to be really confused about racist white men being married to non-white women. Then I realized I was erroneously applying my own ideas of what marriage means.
It made a lot more sense when I remembered that they consider marriage to be a dominance relationship, not a partnership of equals.

"But he was so nice, we forgot he was black," her aunt Opal added, "and he treated her so well, all of his other qualities made up for his being black."

Wow.
But I'm guessing that Aunt Opal would be terribly offended if someone pointed out how racist that is.
Either is contemptible, of course.
Just like 34-felon, there is no core belief system other than "self."
IDK, man. It may not make sense but they're saying some bonafide racist shit. Maybe they think they're a special bean who isn't going to get their face eaten by leopards.
Wouldn't do to accidentally get oppressed yourself after all, while threatening, harming and otherwise abusing your chosen scapegoats, after all!
they'd say they treat different groups worse because of something about the groups,
even though they started with dividing people into groups and finding ways to treat some worse in pursuit of a different goal
Going in that direction, it all fits
I just feel bad for her because it is certainly not the first time this week where he made her feel horrible.
Right. Most of them.
