I have also read that such "hanging a lantern on it" is used by writers to make clear to the audience that the writer has anticipated their objections to the silliness, awkwardness, or implausibility of a plot element, and left in in intentionally. Don't know if that applies in this case.
Lol, I previously replied with that exact same note and article, but then I saw it mentioned “[t]his practice is also known as […] ‘hanging a lantern on it’”, exactly as he said 😅
It's all about media optics. Biden adm brought folks who helped us in Afghanistan in the US with the passage of time. They didn't cover it. It was always gonna look ugly.
In MAGA’z worldview, they aren’t heroes like the troops. Same reason why they love cops but not teachers, even though both are most local government employees.
“…that our own government is doing this to us.” Tragically, unless you are a billionaire or fascist, this government is not your own. Not yours or mine. Not any more. Ashamed of my country.
Yep, nothing demands respect like reneging on all deals and victimizing pregnant women. Real power move. Also, real power move thinking 'fear' is better than 'respect'. Also super-christian, so the whole moral superiority schtick is really going to get a boost

If it is at least eight or maybe nine feet, I can think of a good alternate use for it.
