Why jobs so up tight about calling out sick?

Wdym I need to go to the doctor’s and get a note?

You don’t pay me for sick leave, so why tf should I have to pay for a doctor’s appointment for a note?

At that point I’m not just losing out on a shift’s worth of pay, but spending money to lose money.
