'As Time Goes By' is a song written by Herman Hupfeld in 1931. It became famous when it was sung by Sam (Dooley Wilson). The piano accompaniment was played by a studio pianist, Jean Vincent Plummer. The melody is heard throughout the film as a leitmotif. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAPDxn13A30
