Never heard of this thing, but I can vouch for Order Of The Arrow being weird, appropriative, bullshit. Unless it's really different for other troops and councils, OA is basically just a sash you get to wear to signify having completed some stuff and undergone your "ordeal".

The Order Of The Arrow ordeal is sleeping under the stars and then spending a day in silence doing unpaid, outdoor, physical labor, usually around a scout camp. The weather was so hot when I did mine, we ended up in a pool for a little while, but everyone still had to be quiet and solemn.

I got really lucky and absolutely got useful knowledge and skills and experience out of my time in scouts, and have great memories of doing all kinds of fun and interesting stuff, but it's definitely wrapped up in an awful lot of horrendous bullshit they need to let go of.

YMCA had a thing called Y Indian Guides when I was a kid in the 1960s - embarrassing now to think of it. Dads and sons were pretendeding to be Indians Lite (compared to this). Not sure when it went away - I think they realized it was not a good thing.
