As long as being a municipal-level politician in a major city guarantees you will have a 5% approval rating upon taking office, municipal politics will continue to only attract who it attracts (sociopaths/morons). Portland OR elected a non-sociopath running on a different model this year though

I think it has to do more with the fact that police reports make for easy ready-made stories, are local in nature, and drive engagement/viewership to struggling local news networks than it being an active propaganda operation tbf. It's a function of incentives not a deliberate attempt to distort

Police reports? There is so much property crime in places like San Francisco people don’t bother

I live near San Francisco and just watch shoplifters. My kids see it too. Can get you down after awhile. I know guys who have had tools stolen 2x from work trucks.

Sorry you're just wrong. All crime rates have plummeted from the 90s and continue to decrease. People with a lot of money want you to believe the opposite, and preying on anecdotes is how they do it.

I’m aware of the FBI stats. I’m also aware that ~80% of Americans don’t believe this.

I know violent crime is way down. Whether in the aggregate property crime is down, it’s reporting issues or just more property crime around middle class people now is hard for me to say

It's very easy for me to say because it's what the actual data say - data that come from police, who have every incentive to inflate crime stats.
