Ha! Never thought of that abbreviation. Water closet isn't a term we use here, but I'm definitely seen it abroad.

In Italy WC (pron. /vutʃi/) is one of the main, non-vulgar ways to refer to the toilet seat; I think the most common way is "water" (pron. /vater/) which is a spurious short form of "water closet".
