It does add back in some nutrients and replaces the carbon that plants use to make oxygen. Just burn natural things like food scraps for best results.

That's a wonderful natural idea. I had a friend who did this too. I should as well. I can't remember if we dry them out first and then use them 🤔

I saw somebody’s post where they wash and dry the egg shells and then break them up and add them to the soil for added nutrients. One of my friends just commented and suggested putting the shells in a coffee grinder so that it grinds them perfectly. What a great idea right.🤩

That's a brilliant idea. I love eggs. So ill be doing the same. I also use organic fertilizers too. I'll get some photos. Some of them use marine stuff. So they smell but they make a difference i believe.

My mother taught me small amounts of (used) coffee grounds or onion skins mixed into the soil make great food for earthworms and therefore better soil 😇

Yes my mother would always collect them as well as the vegetable scraps for her Victory Garden. We collect all that for our Organics ♻️ in MPLS. They use it to make compost for the parks & we can go get some for gardening.

If you have a coffee grinder, it works well for grinding it up for easier mixing into compost or soil!

No problem! Just be sure to dry them out completely first (like in the oven) and be aware that if the grinder is plastic, it might leave marks. Otherwise good to go!

Agree. Grind them up or crush them as small as possible and I think I read somewhere it takes a year or so for it to be accessible to plants. So you are probably helping out next years plants more than this years. They will still appreciate it next year!

You can often get wood chips dropped off by the removal services for free, and combined with a good helping of coffee grounds for nitrogen that makes some of the best soil I've grown in. Just takes a bit to break down, so that's a way to set up a bed you wanna use next year.
