0.3% increase in poverty, and that’s before accounting for improved pension credit and other changes beneficial to the elderly.

I support means testing WFA. Many (although clearly not all) pensioners are financially well off home owners. Government needs to consider equity across generations.

It's never just one thing that pushes people into poverty.

I think it needs rounding out.

Excessive food price rises whilst supermarkets make obscene profits, for example.

Feels more like complaining that the government isn't subsidising the greed of other sectors.

You've seen the threshold, right?
It's a scandalous piece of policy which would be 'ok' if it was means tested. As it is, people like my Mother in Law who live on pennies, but miss Tax Credits threshold by pennies, are having the screw turned, and frankly shitting themselves about the next 5 months.

Based on a pension of £220 per week with savings less than 10k, just council tax benefit alone on a band c house is £1300 a year.

I know the threshold. Your mum can still claim benefits if she's pennies over it. Including council benefit worth over 1k a year, worth far more than £200 WFP, and housing benefit if she rents. Contact the council, and they will help her claim it.

Just wondering why, when discussing WFA, you don't include discussion on energy companies, their profits and CEO pay? Seems to me, as previous beneficiary of WFA, that it's simply a subsidy paid via customer to energy suppliers.

They also said there was a low take up of pension credits. This could be easily remedied by making pension credit automatic for those on the lowest incomes. Are they really this stupid?

It isn’t just pensioners Krishnan. Anyone who is unable to work because of severe health problems due to NHS delays is at risk of being unable to afford to eat or heat their home which they may lose because they can’t afford to pay for it. The stories are there if you care to look.
