So LQR places a pre-order for the seventh (and possibly final!) book in the series before heading home. He doesn't even glance at book six yet. Not only does he have classes to teach this afternoon, but once he reads this volume a sea of waiting stretches out before him. He's not sure he's ready.

So he prepares the classroom, which is actually the front room of his house, for the junior calligraphy class. This means water-based inks, the less expensive calligraphy brushes, and extra drop clothes to guard against spills. They are still more enthusiasm than skill despite a summer of lessons.

But at that age, he considers that they have done well if they learn how to hold the brush correctly, and memorize the song that teaches them the stroke names and the principles of stroke order. Any actual writing is just developing the fine motor skills they will need if they actually wish to learn

A'Yuan would like the class, he thinks. The boy had accepted his correction effortlessly, and is clearly already on the cusp of reading and writing despite his young age.

The class passes with the usual amount of noise and mess, leaving him to his own devices for the evening.

The new book sets ready and waiting on the table next to his reading chair, but LQR does not pick it up. In fact, several days pass as he waits to be ready, whatever that means. Perhaps he is just proving that he can wait, now that a long wait lies before him.
