PoE2 has been excellent and exactly what I wanted in a modern ARPG, as someone who spent way too much of their formative years in Diablo 2 and then 3RoS in my 20s.

i didnt get into poe1 - it was too large and unweildy by the time i tried it a couple of years ago so i was very excited to get in on the ground floor of thisone
I do know what you mean, PoE1 has basically been accreting content for a decade; this is much more slimline. But some really odd decisions... like making the start much harder than midgame, reducing drops to Ruthless levels, choosing Sanctum and Ultimatum as mandatory content...
But they couldn't have made the setting much more D2 without calling the A3 jungle settlement Kurast. I do hope they've kept an ice mountain theme for A5 when it comes.
hmm... more like 2 than 3, but definitely got some 3 feel to it. for me a big part of liking 2 was how good the loot in end game was - i like the fact that when i hit diablo in hell difficulty i was still finding bits of kit that made me go "omg", something 3 didnt reach
Honestly, the fact that they designed an entire endgame complete with voice acting that only makes sense if the game ends after Act 3 is an astounding bit of commitment to presenting a polished product.
It very much reuses a ton of assets from the campaign, and I expect to see the Arbiter(?) show up in the final product as well, but it's a neat fresh take on mapping that forces people to play remarkably differently from the first game just by a couple very simple tweaks to the design.
i cant quite explain it yet but the parts going through mobs etc have been good fun and very good "Have a podcast on, kill lots of stuff, get to boss" loop, and then the bosses have required my attention and knowing what im pressing in a way that D4 never came close to touching (Im not bored, for 1)
its got co op and i think when it releases fully you can migrate your character across systems, whichis great for me because i want to go between pc and ps5.
Im curled up in bed and still want to be playing it, which is v rare for me
Honestly it's been a lot of fun! I was ambivalent when PoE 1 was a little too...visually much with the tree, specs, skill gems. Etc etc.
This has a good entry that lets you learn, and build out as you get more comfortable. Really excited to see how it grows as a casual player of this Genre!
PoE2 has so many positives going for it, we have put quite a bit of time into it! It definitely needs some balancing though. The gameplay itself feels fantastic, very excited to see how it progresses in the future.
Super funs, WASD for life.
My ranger is a beast, tooltip only says 450,000 dps but I know it's higher!!
Monk alt super fun too 😍 ring the bellsss!!! Making a witch next
I'm enjoying the game, but it does feel quite incomplete. The fact that the 3 act bosses you fight. You technically don't kill any of them. I'm on act 3 cruel mode and still haven't found better gear than what I found in normal mode.
Gotcha. Remember to take your time. Don't rush through everything. Clear every map. If you die, don't worry, just means more xp. For the first act boss. Look for cold resist gear. Act 2 is a major pain so take it slow and easy. Things will get frustrating. I'm playing as a witch necromancer.
PoE2 is not your typical hack and slash like Diablo is. With Diablo. I wanted larger and larger hordes of enemies to slay. Not with PoE2. Lol. You'll run into enemies that could one shot you. My warrior has that problem despite having 70% damage reduction. The act 1 boss is brutal. He spams attacks.
Its funny to see diablo called a typical arpg - not because youre wrong but because it became typical because it was the blueprint! I was very hopeful about that something something wicked game that was supposedly like diablo + darksouls but it didnt quite pass muster in the end

But 12 years of PoE1 may have biased me?

This sounds fantastic
Oh no, I'm in danger. I'd hoped ARPG developers had simply forgotten how to make Good Games Like Diablo 2 (tm).
