I canceled my Facebook account & I have never had an Instagram or X account. As long as you are on their turf they can find any information they want about you. Removing & depositing additional funds to another credit union instead of just using the bank that my Social Security check gets deposit in
Truth be told: Anyone who has public records (mortgages, applications for rentals, drivers licenses, credit card applications, loans, and, obviously, social media accounts with 'truthful' personal data, marriages, etc) your personal information is available for anyone doing a search. It's out there.
I don’t use any personal info on social media. Well I no longer use any social media but Bluesky. You can also make corrections to your credit report and remove addresses and email addresses. Your credit report isn’t public information.
On all of my SM accounts… I’ve never given correct DoB, and though it was popular on FB when it first started, still is, my school and college info is not included on my profile
For years — colleges were easy pickings to gain personal info on people. You pretended you were a potential employer…
Also, I was employed in the legal profession for most of my working career, and was also briefly a licensed private investigator. In both of those areas you have access to an abundance of presumably private data sites.
A friend of mine works for local lawyers and has given us info on people…
in our area who we have concern over (Proud Boys, specifically). She has access to all their home information which includes a lot of background info too. Workplace, credit rating, etc.
What she has revealed is likely not her right to share … but? There you go.
No it isn’t public info per se but any company even those who you haven’t applied for credit with can request information from the three reporting agencies. And with rogue employees…? The agencies don’t notify you.
Also—have you tried to correct misinformation on them? It’s not a simple process.
The Dark Web has everything on everybody too. It doesn't matter if you quit, delete or never joined a social media platform. Your information is PUBLIC. Check out Spokeo, Intelius, state government sites. Enter your name, pay the one-time rate. You'll see your personal data. We all can see it.
I don’t think your driver license is supposed to be public. I think I only put it in when I file my taxes with turbo tax. But that isn’t public information
The only time I recall giving my driver’s license number for tax related purposes was in order to pay for state filing online. And that was through whatever private company the state used to process the filing fee. I don’t think they require that now. You have a personal ID #. Fed is usually free.
But it gets out there because of hacks. A number of medical providers, healthcare insurance companies, ask for your driver’s license number… and a number of these organizations have recently (last year or so) been hacked. I was notified by mine. They have provided ID Theft protection to compensate.
These background sites have anythng that is public information. You've given out plentyof public information in your lifetime. Where you've lived--every address, your relatives, neighbors, credit ratings, any arrests, etc.
So... the idea of privacy is so 19th century. Nothing is private anymore.
You can email and have them delete the info on sites like true people info. There is also a way to remove your mortgage info from public records. I can’t remember how. It’s through the county. If you look at Zillow some property info doesn’t show up and those people have had it removed.
We have on file with our title company a form that prevents anyone from gaining access to the title. You have to go through your title to do that. It’s a growing scam.
Home sales records are often published by individual realtors. Again, once it’s on the net, it’s nearly impossible to erase it.
That’s why you have a good virus and security program that scours the dark web and notifies you if info that they can find.
I have locked my three credit bureau files so no one can get info from them. If I need a loan or new credit card, I unlock it for a few days then lock them again.
The point in quitting Twitter or FB or any other social media site is to send a message that we're not for sale and we don't agree with their politics. That's all.
It's also a way of going incommunicado. Out of sight-out of mind in case civil war breaks out. You might not get sought out as quickly.
I think the main reason to get rid of X and FB is because they allow political lies people use as propaganda. If you are a democrat you shouldn’t be supporting their financial gain. We need our own social media. Why do republicans have so many
I quit X and don’t post on Instagram. FB is hard to quit until my extended family —many living abroad — and I can find another similar platform to communicate on.

On Zillow—anyone could screen-shoot it and keep it on their computer.
There is no scrubbing the dark web. It’s too complex with too many players.

Also —MSN is extremely biased in its reporting. Far-right. Misinformation. A really bad platform and search engine (Bing) .
