Thanks a lot, Janet! The settings were as follows: Nikon d610, Sigma 105mm macro (obviously at 105 focal length), f5.6 (wide open), speed 1/1600 s, ISO500, no flash. As you see, a speed of 1/1600 and low ISO is conterintuitive when shooting in the dark, but you have to account for the flare light!

Thank you. Yes the ISO surprised me but as you say - when the light comes it's very bright, you've got it spot on with no white out and the surrounding sparks being perfectly exposed. I've done little portraiture / street photography- I'm very impressed 😊

Thanks, the key is a fast shutter speed in order to freeze the flame movement, so it is not blurry. At the same time this same setting avoids overexposure of the flame, which would also kill the detail. Thanks for commenting! 😊

This is a stunning shot! Guessing maybe the hashtags aren't ones everyone is looking for on a regular basis, which maybe why engagement seems low? I found your page through a landscape photo and then scrolled to find your other awesome work!

mmm, yes, I thought that after using the hashtag #photography anything else was rather secondary, but you might be right. I tend to be in a hurry when I post and thinking about the hashtags is not too exciting for me, but any idea is welcome! 😉 thanks for commenting!
