Someone who is not in the senate yet, who can run for his seat if he chooses not to run again, which he should. He is too old and there are now three generations behind him who can put someone left forward to fill his seat. His is also not the only leftist in the Democratic Party, is he.
Term limits are certainly needed but the only reason you should demand they pass the torch is when they fail their constituents. Bernie hasn't and his ideology is exactly what is needed in an opposition movement. You don't throw that away in a time like this simply because he's old.
Term limits are needed AND an age cap. It’s not okay to be in your 90’s and in office - whether congress, Supreme Court or the presidency - like he plans to be since he has filed the paper work to run for reelection. New generations deserve opportunity to lead and influence their futures.
Meg, I don’t think voters need to worry that Bernie’s Vermont Senate seat will be taken by a right wing ideologue the way RBG and Biden’s seats were. Bernie is in a safe seat and whoever takes his seat after him will not be a right wing reactionary.
