Character played as a Warlock, but really was a mentally disturbed sorcerer. What he thought was his patron was really just a voice he was hearing in his head
Omg that's awesome, I'm playing a hexblade warlock, aberrant mind dip and my patron is a crazy demilich they are completely incoherent but grant me crazy powers and my blood was transfused with a metallic dragon which gave me my psychic capabilities
I DM'd a game that included my mother, once upon a time. She rolled up a human fighter...and in her character backstory decided she was a pacifist and refused to even attack goblins! It was...a unique adventure...😅
My half orc fighter is son to a wealthy elf merchant whom was kidnapped by orc bandits during a travel run. He fell in love with the leaders daughter and woo'ed her while caged and they fled together. There is a whole part about their different cultures and stuff and how he loves her no matter what.
All my characters have tragic backstories, except one - a druid elf that simply wants to travel and see the world. She's my hardest to play since I usually play casters that like to blow up the bad guys.
She's my most 'personal". I grew up in the southwest, so she's a desert elf and the name of her and her people are all from my area. The DM even let me change all of my animal forms to the desert version (e.g., big cat = cougar).
That's really awesome! My personal most played character is a hexblade, aberrant mind multi-class. I also have another character I really enjoy that's a halfling divination wizard who was insanely lucky the DM absolutely hated it 😂
...I 'totally piece of candy' it when it comes to wholesome backstories "Daw! Is this an inspiration from you or your kids?" "Omg! That sounds so cute, you mind if I doodle out a picture or you have references?" Bahaha! Good times! ⚔️🍻🤘
I blame the 90s jrpgs for my having picked 1-3 for various characters.
Best origin I evolved into? An older telling who looked after her aged mother and sister (both regular humans), and sent money home to help support the family.
You forgot the beleaguered, mercenary Captain, war veteran, ex-sailor, knight that's 287 years old and is now a 1st level Fighter somehow. Blame it on amnesia. 🙃
My current favorite character of mine is Elspeth of Agonarr, in the Eberron realm. She's a bard and much Irish lore (I'm of mostly Irish descent) is entwined in her making and playing.
The group I was in on Roll20 is partly queer and we all had a great time.
That's Awesome i appreciate the whole lore dump, Very interesting details. This is what makes world building great. And you and your friends are all welcome in this community and I'll always respond to comments
Lordy, the scenarios I've created over the years. It's a big part of the basis of some of my fiction. One of my current series is called "Tales of the ShadowWing" and is about a ship's captain & her crew. Swords, sorcery, cannibal wizards, trolls (sort of), guild of assassins (of course). 😊
I'm retired and generally have my nights free. So, ifen ye ever do anything on Roll20 and need another player, feel free to send a homing dragon my way. 😆
Pt2) The writers before me made a sort of fire brigade line, passing a weapon down from one poster to the next.
After about 2-3 minutes of pondering, the below was the result.
**************
The weapon was handed to the woman/writer above me and she asked if it 'had a name'. I could not resist.
Pt4) pillager of villages and stealer of gold for his dragon hoard till he bain laid low by Trollsbane. He wert destroyed by the strength of the mighty sinews in the arms of the great half-Elven warrior, Krenn, friend of the current king.
One blow, it is said, twas enough to lay
Pt5) Elderndruin low in the fields, his back broken, his wings fluttering in futility, his rapacious eyes finally closing for good. The last sight he beheld was of that of Krenn swinging Trollsbane in a mighty two-handed blow that was heard e'en in the far off villages of Aidenlore.
Pt6)
It is entrusted to you now, warrior. I am eld and weak of strength, no longer able to wield the mighty weapon that helped save our line. It is known that while man may wield it, its full magic and ferocity is only bestowed on the wielder if they be a woman.
They’re players, not novelists. Does your backstory help you understand and get excited about your character and their motivations? Cool! Run with it! I’m not here to judge a “who can be more original” contest. Have fun with your imaginary person!
Player 5: I grew up in a poor family and watched my father die before I was sold into 30 years of slavery. After winning my freedom I chose dedicating my life in eradicating slavers during my adventures.
My current character ran an inn and meadery with her parents and went adventuring after they retired to the feywild. I love a good tragic backstory for story fuel, but it just isn’t who she is.
That’s such a wholesome reason to adventure! Did they learn anything from running the meadery that helps in their travels? I bet they have the best tavern connections
They did! They are a bard whose performance specialty is cooking and brewing, so she makes fast friends everywhere. She is also the party’s melee fighter who always jumps into battle first—shaking off years of customer service bullshit.
Never got into organized play, but I always wanted to convince some chapter to let me come in as a wealthy noble who hired the adventurers to take me into danger! Adventure! & fight the forces of Evil itself. He'd pay extra to get the last hit in on a monster, that sort of thing.

Stupid auto correct

I saw this and I couldna help it. This'll be a bit long for BlueSky so bear with me, pls. :)
Pt1) This was in response to a thread on another venue about m3n constantly coming into our DMs with trashy or creepy blurbs.
And I've been playing DnD since 1979. Plus, of course, WTA, Vampire the Masquerade, various versions of realms in GURPS, etc.
😊

Me: "It is named Trollsbane, hammer of my brother and our father, hammer of his father, hammer of his father and on back through the ages.
The shaft and pommel is made of mithril, wrapped in the threads of the skin of Eernadin, sire of Elderndruin the Devourer,
